The first of the mystery blocks will be revealed at Handcrafters House at the Progressive Quilt Opening Event Saturday 29 March at 11am.
Then its on to the 3 Bus Trips designed to visit the Progressive Quilt Trail shops, entertain, educate and a have fun outing with like-minded textile lovers.
Bus Trip 1. Thursday 3rd April, Metro area visiting 5 sponsors + 2 Art Galleries. WAQA Members ticket $10, Non-Members $20. BYO Lunch. Seats available.
We will be visiting the Janet Holmes a Court Gallery current exhibition which is part of the Festival of Perth. Drylands brings together the visions of 9 artists responding to 8 different parts of the WA landscape. These artworks reveal sparse realities and inherent ironies and make meaningful provocations that invite us to consider the state of our environment. Tania Spenser installation has inspired a beautiful book of poetry, and our own Virginia O’Keefe will perform a poetry reading.
The second exhibition is at Wanneroo, which has a selection of the Andy Warhol’s Mick Jagger series on loan from the National Gallery of Australia. The Antipodean Manifesto exhibition can also be viewed.
Bus Trip 2. Saturday 5th April visiting 2 Metro & 2 Country sponsors + Textile Artist Talk & Demonstration. WAQA Members ticket $35, Non-Members $45. Fully catered. Seats available.
The talk and demonstration will be at Craft Collection by Lorelie Smit. She is an exhibitor in the current stitched and bound touring exhibition.
Lorelie is a textile artist based in Busselton. She explores the possibilities of dyeing fabric and paper, combining hand stitch and bookmaking as well as repurposing Op shop clothing.
Bus trip 3. Tuesday 8th April, Metro visiting 5 sponsors + a Textile Art Studio. WAQA Members ticket $25. Non-Members $35. Fully catered. Seats available.
