The announcement of the Ruby Challenge Members’ Choice voting was intended to be made at the Christmas party but was not possible due to the Challenge Convenor mixing up the date. Here are the results…
Congratulations to the winner of Members’ Choice for the Ruby Anniversary Challenge – Robin Gartner’s quilt “40 Rubies” won first place by a clear margin.
In very close voting, there were only two votes separating the next four place winners.
Equal second to Glenda Oelsen for “Rubies from Japan” and Jan Rowe for “Growing and Reaching Out”, Fourth to Frances Schifferli for “Home Grown”, Fifth to Megan Byrne for “Made in ’76″
I was very honoured that my quilt was chosen by fellow quilters. Thank you all. Despite the challenge of the topic I thoroughly enjoyed making this quilt to interpret the importance of the ruby anniversary to members, especially those who were among the founders. Forty years, so forty rubies starting from little things and growing to big things. Each year had its own stone or symbol until 30, so a quilting symbol was introduced. There are 40 dressed dollies including a male to acknowledge our male members, then lots of quilted dollies to represent the membership in general.
Thank you for the opportunity WAQA
