WAQA members attending the February General Meeting were treated to an evening of textile treasures when Guest Speaker, Gail Hawes brought along some of her favourite pieces. We joined her on a journey along the silk road from China to the west where unusual materials and techniques have been used to create wondrous pieces of textile through the ages.
The textiles were beautiful and intricate and included Rescht work, patchwork and stitching from Persia and several tribal pieces from China.
What a treat we had! What stories she could tell!
I really enjoyed listening to Gail tell of the history of all the fabrics and embroidery. Made me want to get out my needle and embroider something beautiful, just to see the colours on the fabric.
