Guest Speaker – Gail Hawes – ‘From Bark to Silk’
The talk will take you on a journey to several parts of the world where unusual materials or techniques have been used to create wondrous pieces of textile.
Gail will introduce some of the variety of fibres which have been used in patchwork or applique style pieces. Some may surprise, some have been used for hundreds of years. Others using more conventional material, but with an excellence in applique or patchwork techniques which is rare to find.
The display will include Bark and Raffia cloth from Africa, Rescht work – patchwork and stitching from Persia and several tribal pieces from China.
