In September 2013, KT, mother of one of the Kindy students, contacted Community Quilts through the website, requesting assistance in making a quilt for their kindy teacher, Mrs Forsburge, who had recently lost everything in a house fire.
KT wanted the 4-5 year olds to be involved in the making of the quilt.
The children, with the help of their teachers, spent several days planning, painting the tree and flowers and writing their names on a very large piece of calico.
Borders were added at the October Quilting Bee and Megan Byrne then took the incomplete top home to applique the birds and with her ‘handiquilter’ worked her magic to complete the masterpiece you see below
Highgate Kindy is a very multicultural school. Many of the parents came to the morning tea in December to witness the excited children present their very special quilt to their special teacher.
The making of the quilt epitomises the sense of community and the spirit of WAQA Community Quilts.
Many thanks to everyone who helped to make it happen!
