Who said that quilting was a passive pastime? After a very busy Sewing Day many members went home with heads spinning and fingers itching to try out new techniques.
Firstly Community Quilts put on a display of recent donations and they were much admired and inspected. The workmanship on all the donated quilts was truly astounding and highlighted the generosity of the makers.
‘Show and Tell was, as always, inspiring and included quilts for ‘Aussie Heroes’.
The new ‘Tips, Ideas and Techniques’ sectioned followed and was a huge success as we all tried to muscle in on the demonstrations (a rugby scrum comes to mind….)
Gwen showed the quick cutting technique for the Arrowhead block and gave out instructions and fabric squares for members to take home and have a go (finished blocks to be returned next month to make into a Community Quilt)
Tiiu gave a demonstration of quick piecing squares
and Barbara showed how to make half square triangles
WAQA has a new member – baby Michaela, who was born in December and aims to keep our Workshop Convenor, Tracey, even busier!
and last but not least our new Assistant Librarian, Lisa, is shown the ropes by Jean.
