Community Quilts

Community Quilts is run by a volunteer convenor who accepts and distributes completed quilts to organisations on behalf of WAQA members.

Community Quilts (CQ) greatly appreciates and warmly welcomes donations of quilts, tops, fabric and other quilting items from the wider community to support us in our endeavours. Some WAQA members generously donate their time in quilting, binding and beautifully finishing off tops donated by other members. Other WAQA members donate completed quilts they have made from their own resources. The quilts donated to CQ or made by CQ members are labelled as ‘Made With Love by WA Quilters’ prior to distribution to various organizations. Photos of some of the distributed quilts can be viewed here.

When considering the time and effort put into a quilt top, thought needs to be put into all other aspects of the quilt to ensure the finished quilt is not devalued. Please read the guidelines on quilt sizes, backing, binding and labels when making a quilt for CQ.

Community Quilts has an Accuquilt Go that can be used by members at the sewing meetings, Busy Bees, or hired out for use at home. Check out the list of dies and cost of hiring, then contact waqacommunityquilts@gmail.com to make a booking in order to use the Accuquilt Go.

Block of the Month’ demonstrations at sewing meetings engage the wider WAQA membership in the fun and enjoyment of learning, sharing and making quilts for the community. For past BOM patterns and the photos of completed quilts, click here

'Busy Bees' are held at Alexander Park Craft House in Menora on the 4th Sunday of the month from 10am-3pm. Please check the Calendar for the dates that we meet. The CQ members are a wonderful bunch and will make you feel most welcome. You will enjoy great company and a wonderful feeling of achievement as you help put quilts together, that are then donated to those in need in our community. The recipients are grateful and often overwhelmed to receive the gift of a unique quilt.

Quilters have the extraordinary ability to touch others hearts!

Please contact the Community Quilts Convenor (waqacommunityquilts@gmail.com) if you would like to be involved in any capacity.
