Last Month's Winter Retreat

Almost a month has passed since the WAQA Winter Retreat was held at Redgum in Dwellingup and I have finally found some time to put together a few words and pictures about the retreat. The number of attendees was lower than at previous WAQA Retreats but that just meant more room to spread out in this very lovely venue, which was quite nice.

The food supplied by Wild Thyme Catering was once again outstanding. There was plenty to eat for everyone, with every meal presented wonderfully and tasting amazingly. The quilters with special dietary requirements were looked after extremely well for the main meals as well as the impressive morning and afternoon teas and desserts.

I really enjoyed the retreat as I was able to make great progress on the two projects that I took with me. Some of the other quilters had brought along a lot more projects and made a lot more progress, which was awe inspiring. One of the things I really like about attending retreats is seeing what others are working on. Wandering around the tables was great fun as the work spaces were so colourful when covered with fabric and pieced blocks.

The design wall was put to great use, with at times projects on both sides. I love listening to the discussions that go with the arranging and rearranging of the blocks. The Show and Tell is a nice way to end the retreat, as everyone can feel the sense of accomplishment whether a finished quilt top is being displayed or simply a stack or blocks.

If you want to see more pictures of the work of the retreat members check out the Winter Retreat Slide Show.
